Jimothy the Raccoon

A Jimothy post usually says something affectionate about an unlikely local hero. People cheer for him, compare short, round objects to him, or treat a glimpse of him as celebrity news. The fun is in how invested everyone becomes. A raccoon walks across a lawn; the internet appoints itself his publicity team. That is a different kind of animal joke from Scientists Reveal the Hi, where the caption does the explaining.

The story began with a Ballard resident’s Instagram clip on July 14, 2026. Smithsonian reported that she first mistook the animal for a cat during a walk before recognizing his raccoon face. Neighbors then shared other sightings. Local enthusiasm became a public celebration when Seattle councilmembers honored him with a Jimothy Summer proclamation in late July. The original footage shows a wild animal; fan drawings and edited versions are separate works.

You can recognize Jimothy before reading a caption, and another sighting gives people another excuse to talk about him. That is a useful combination for a meme. Fan art makes the affection visible; local coverage lets people outside Ballard join in. The humor stays small and specific even as the attention grows. A fresh clip of him climbing a fence can be enough. No elaborate plot is required.

• Neighborhood sightings. A phone clip of Jimothy going about his day is the basic format. Keep the location and date when they are known, so an old clip does not become a supposed new sighting.
• Fan art and tributes. Drawings, murals and tattoos turn affection into something you can keep. Reports linked below document a mural at Ballard Clay Pottery Studio and fan art raising money for the Ballard Food Bank.
• Everything looks like Jimothy. A short, round object becomes a reminder of the raccoon. The visual resemblance carries the joke. Let people notice it before adding a paragraph of explanation.

For a sighting, keep your distance and leave the animal alone. Do not arrange an encounter for a clip. For a drawing or edit, label it as your version and credit the footage or artwork you use. Keep the caption short enough that Jimothy remains the point. If you prefer an AI-made animal gag, Black Cat Clapping gives you a different mechanism to work with.
